Every year during First Communion Mass, Fr. Joe asked two members of the congregation when and where was your First Communion, what do you remember from that day, and who was the priest? In the 11 years Fr. Joe was the priest at St. Benedict, he never called on me to answer that question so what a better place to answer that than on the blog!
I received my First Communion 20 years ago at St. Benedict by Fr. (now Msgr.) Gaalaas. My mom was one of the Lectors that day. I remember holding the red Worship hymnal by the bookmark and loudly dropping it during Mass. After drinking from the chalice, I made a sour face but immediately stopped because Mrs. Carol warned us not to do that. I remember getting to choose where to eat afterwards and I picked Luby’s because they served Jell-O! I remember smiling for so many pictures that I thought my mouth would fall off – but looking back, I’m so glad.
One of my favorite images of all time is me standing in front of the church with both sets of grandparents. What a special memory! Here are images of ME from my First Communion 20 years ago:
For the past 7 years, I’ve had the honor of photographing First Communion at St. Bens. With around 60 boys and girls each year – it is no small feat! I love seeing them all dressed up as they come down the aisle. It is one of my favorite occasions to photograph each year. The photographs from my First Communion are some of my most cherished memories – I love creating memories for the next generation to enjoy as well!
Over the years, I’ve had a few parishioners who wanted more than the standard, traditional portraits so they hired me for a separate portrait session! Here are images from Brooke & Alexa below:
Don’t the girls look beautiful?
